EPREL labelling now also for smartphones: Qualified e-Seal mandatory for manufacturers
As of June 20, 2025, a new European regulation has officially come into force, extending the obligation of energy labeling to smartphones and tablets. This is part of the EU’s strategy for greater sustainability, durability, and repairability of electronic devices.
The EPREL label for smartphones now includes key information such as:
- Charger energy efficiency
- Battery lifespan
- Degree of protection against dust and water
- Device repairability
Manufacturers intending to place smartphones and tablets on the European market must now register their products in the EPREL database (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling). This registration is mandatory to generate the energy label that must accompany the product at the time of sale.
How to Access the EPREL System
To access the EPREL system and complete device registration, a Qualified e-Seal, compliant with the eIDAS regulation, is required to verify the identity of the economic operator.
Intesi Group, as a QTSP – Qualified Trust Service Provider, offers manufacturers the EPREL Qualified e-Seal, which meets the technical requirements established by the European Commission. Through its services, companies can securely access the EPREL database and ensure full compliance with the new regulation.
The new rules represent a significant step toward a circular economy, requiring manufacturers to promptly adapt to avoid penalties and ensure transparency for consumers.
